Anderson's company, Fiddlehead Prods., has acquired "Gellhorn: A Twentieth-Century Life," a 2004 biography by Caroline Moorehead. British playwright and screenwriter Sharman Macdonald is penning the feature adaptation.
Anderson, who opens July 25 in 20th Century Fox film "The X-Files: I Want to Believe," will play Gellhorn.
Deborah Newmyer and Michael Glassman of Outlaw Prods. will produce with Sarah Radclyffe. Latter recently produced "The Edge of Love," which Macdonald scripted.
"Martha Gellhorn was one of the most respected journalists of this century, and I thought Caroline's biography effectively encompassed her rich and complex life," Anderson said.
Anderson will star as Nora in a production of Ibsen's "A Doll's House" that will open at London's Donmar Warehouse next spring.
