Van Galder’s been president of domestic marketing for the past two years, while Weinstock’s served as Screen Gems prexy of marketing since October.
The duo will report to Sony’s chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution Jeff Blake, who announced the promotions Friday.
In their new slots, Van Galder and Weinstock will develop and oversee worldwide marketing campaigns for more than 20 titles annually, covering films released by Columbia, Screen Gems and Sony Pictures Animation.
Sony noted that the execs have worked together for more than a decade, first at Fox Searchlight. Van Galder brought Weinstock to join her at Screen Gems in 2000, when she oversaw marketing and publicity; when she moved from president of TriStar in 2006 to head Col’s domestic marketing division, Weinstock began heading marketing for Screen Gems.
Sony said Van Galder and Weinstock have been the marketing architects for a total of 28 titles that opened in first at the domestic box office.
Col’s upcoming slate includes Bond pic “Quantum of Solace,” “The Da Vinci Code” followup “Angels & Demons,” Roland Emmerich’s “2012,” “The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3” and “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.”
Screen Gems’ pics include “Lakeview Terrace,” “Quarantine,” “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans” and “District 9” from producer Peter Jackson.
Sony Pictures Animation projects including the just announced “Smurfs,” “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” and “Hotel Transylvania.”
