Sarfaty joins Sydney fest as CEO

Fest adds FAIPF-backed competition

SYDNEY -- The Sydney Film Festival, which shuttered its 55th outing last week, has appointed Mark Sarfaty fest CEO.

Sarfaty, who used to head up indie cinema exhibber Dendy, replaces Fiona Cameron who has become exec director of strategy and operation for the new film super agency Screen Australia.

"We look forward to continuing a relationship with Fiona in her new role and thank her for her contribution to the recent festival," said fest president Virginia Gordon.

Fest added a FIAPF-backed competition strand for the first time this year with 12 films competing for the inaugural Sydney Film Prize, which was awarded to Steve McQueen's pic "Hunger."  Clare Stewart will continue on as festival director.
