Telepool flooded with Discop deals

'Alarm for Cobra 11' among top sellers

By ED MEZA

BERLIN -- Telepool inked a slew of deals for series, event movies and documentaries at last week's Discop programming mart in Budapest, underscoring the growing significance of Eastern Europe for the German distrib.

Among its top sellers was the long-running hit cop action skein "Alarm for Cobra 11," which sold to broadcasters in Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia and the Baltic States.

Sales were also strong for DVD rights to the skein, with deals finalized for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Telepool also sold popular sitcom "Berlin Berlin" in Slovenia and signed a TV movie package deal for Hungary, while a documentary bundle went to Poland.

"In the past few years, Discop has become the top film market for Central and Eastern Europe and that's reflected in our increasing sales revenue," said Irina Ignatiew, Telepool's exec VP international. "The film market in these territories still has great growth potential."

Discop ran June 18-20.
