Bonnie Hammer, president of cable entertainment and cable studios for NBC Universal, said Blaney deserves lots of credit for USA's position as the highest-rated ad-supported cable network for the past two-and-a-half years.
Led by Blaney, who's based in New York, USA has embarked on its most aggressive strategy of buying high-visibility theatrical movies to bolster the primetime schedule, locking up titles including "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," "Sex and the City," the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy, "The Bourne Identity," "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "Casino Royale."
In off-network series, Blaney said she can't wait to start scheduling "House" and "NCIS" every night starting in September. Those series will join USA's current rerun hits "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "L&O: Criminal Intent."
Blaney not only buys the movies and off-network shows but is nimble and adept at scheduling them for maximum impact, Hammer said.
Blaney is a 28-year vet of USA.
