Fox falls for Falls' body swap pitch

Pilot follows womanizer who becomes female

Fox has ordered a put pilot from scribe Kevin Falls ("Journeyman") based on Argentina's telenovela hit "Lalola."

Hyped in Argentina as the next "Ugly Betty," "Lalola" revolves around a womanizer who is transformed into a woman -- and must endure the same kind of abuse he used to dole out.

In his pitch to the nets, Falls even took on the persona of the character -- a man trapped in a woman's body -- to positive effect. Show takes place at a sports management firm and will also be set in the world of entertainment and fashion.

Falls will write the adaptation and exec produce; Jamie Tarses is also on board as an exec producer. Sony Pictures TV is behind the project, which is based on the Dori Media International format.

U.S. version doesn't yet have a firm title; it's unclear whether "Lalola" will be used.

Falls' credits also include "The West Wing," "Sports Night," "Arli$$," "The Lyon's Den" and "Shark." His features include "Summer Catch" and "The Temp."

Dori Media Group began pitching the format in the fall as a "new type of telenovela," eschewing the genre's usual rich-poor love story in favor of something more contemporary and faster-paced (Daily Variety, Sept. 1).

"Lalola," which originally aired on Argentina's America TV, is also being locally adapted for TV in the Philippines.
