Sternberg sets up documentary unit

Producer creates new feature division

Scott Sternberg, one of the most active producers of nonfiction TV series in the U.S., has set up a division devoted to feature-length documentaries.

The first project of Scott Sternberg Prods.' new division focuses on four young adults trying to adjust to life in the modern world after a strict upbringing as children of Hasidic Jews.

Sternberg said he has given the documentary an appropriate title -- "I Can't Take It Anymore" -- because these people "are rebelling from a strict religious life and leaving orthodoxy behind." He's now in the process of rounding up the four subjects of the doc.

A second docu, untitled, will feature interviews with people afflicted with the rare condition called Morgellons disease, which results in skin lesions that don't heal and other debilitating symptoms.

Sternberg said the move into docus is a natural expansion for his 17-year-old company, which has produced more than 100 hours of TV programs over the last 18 months, including "Shootout," co-hosted by Daily Variety editor-in-chief Peter Bart and Peter Guber and now its fifth season on AMC, and "The Academy," going into its second season on the Fox Reality Channel.

The Biography Channel carries the talkshow "Raw Nerve," presided over by William Shatner, and TLC will premiere talent competish "The Singing Office" on Sunday. Sternberg produces "That's the Question" for GSN and sells "Hollywood Uncensored" to TV outlets in 15 countries.
