Live Nation CEO steps down

Cohl reportedly frustrated with co.'s strategy

Michael Cohl has stepped down from his position as chief executive officer at Live Nation Artists and will segue into a consulting role for the concert promotion giant.

Cohl has also resigned from the company's board of directors (Daily Variety ,June 20).

During his tenure at Live Nation Artists, the division signed wide-ranging pacts with headliners including Jay-Z and Madonna. Company is also closing in on a long-term deal with U2, Live Nation chief Michael Rapino said in announcing Cohl's resignation Friday.

Cohl, a concert biz vet, made his mark promoting Rolling Stones tours during the 1980s, which brought in higher ticket prices and spurred the growth of corporate sponsorship of high-profile music tours.
