Auburn to write Universal's time-travel thriller

Universal Pictures has set up David Auburn time-travel thriller pitch "The Archive," with the "Proof" playwright to pen the script as a directing vehicle for James Mangold.

Scott Stuber will produce with Cathy Konrad. The project came to the studio through Stuber's U-based Stuber Prods.; Konrad will produce through Tree Line Film, in which she partnered with Mangold on such films as "3:10 to Yuma" and "Walk the Line."

Auburn adapted his 2001 play into the screen version of "Proof " and also scripted "The Lake House" for Warner Bros. Auburn made his feature directing debut on "The Girl in the Park," which the Weinstein Co. recently acquired.

Stuber recently wrapped production on Joe Johnston's "The Wolfman," the Brandon Camp-directed "Traveling" and the Miguel Sapochnik-helmed "Repossession Mambo."
