Also added to the Gotham nonprofit's slate is an Off Broadway staging of Itamar Moses' play "Back Back Back."
Pierce, the Emmy winner ("Frasier") who earned a 2007 Tony for the tuner "Curtains," will portray a playwright whose relationship with his actress muse is at the center of Samson Raphaelson's backstage comedy. Daniel Sullivan will helm.
"Accent," which will play MTC's Broadway venue (soon to be renamed the Samuel J. Friedman Theater) beginning in April, has not been seen on the Rialto since its original 1934 staging.
Set for the fall at the smaller of MTC's two Off Broadway spaces, "Back Back Back," directed by Daniel Aukin, follows three baseball players in the era of steroids scrutiny. Earlier this year MTC produced Moses' "The Four of Us."
Already on the org's season slate are previously announced offerings including a new play version of pic "To Be or Not to Be," a new musical from John Patrick Shanley ("Doubt") and Henry Krieger ("Dreamgirls") called "Romantic Poetry" and a new production of Richard Greenberg play "The American Plan."
Pierce, still on the boards with "Curtains," will continue with that musical until the show finishes its Broadway run at the end of the month.
