Classic Stage adds to new season

'Uncle Vanya,' 'An Oresteia' added to the bill

Off Broadway’s Classic Stage Company has nailed down two more offerings in its 2008-09 season, including a winter production of Anton Chekhov’s “Uncle Vanya” starring Tony winner Denis O’Hare (“Take Me Out”).

Also on the bill is the world preem of “An Oresteia,” a two-part play by poet Anne Carson, based on a collection of classical Greek plays (by Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides) about the fall of the House of Atreus.

Show bows in March, with part one helmed by CSC a.d. Brian Kulick and part two directed by Paul Lazar.

Helmed by Austin Pendleton, “Vanya” begins its limited run Jan. 14.

CSC season kicks off in September with a production of “The Tempest” starring Mandy Patinkin.
