Pic penned by Muccino in tandem with Yank scribe Liz Tuccillo (“Sex and the City”) will be helmed by Paolo Monico, a Brooklyn-based Italian native with experience in music vids and commercials.
“Four Single Fathers,” which centers on the bond between four men whose kids attend the same school, will start shooting in Boston July 7. It is co-produced by Mediaset and Muccino’s Los Angeles-based Indiana Prods. shingle.
The cast will be a mixed bag of Yank and Italo thesps with Italo A-lister Alessandro Gassman (“Quiet Chaos”) attached as one of the protags.
Executive producer Pete Maggi said the indie pic will aim for a Sundance launch but can also be packaged into a pilot for a Mediaset skein with Muccino’s stamp on it.
It’s the first English-language foray for Mediaset, Italy’s top commercial web, owned by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and managed by his son Piersilvio Berlusconi.
Mediaset last year acquired a 33% stake in Endemol as part of an expansionist plan that aims to transform the mostly Italo-centric company into a global content provider.
