Nigel Lythgoe, the executive producer of "American Idol," will accept the award on the show's behalf during a gala reception at the Annex in Hollywood on July 31.
This is the second year the special has run, and has made millions of dollars for various U.S. charities that deliver support to underprivileged children in some of the most disadvantaged areas in the U.S.
In its first year, the special raised $76 million, and the final tally for this year's special looks to exceed that figure.
