Robert Namias, a 22-year veteran of the network, will be stepping aside on Monday. He will be replaced by Jean-Claude Dassier, director general of TF1’s rolling news channel LCI.
Two appointments as chief news editors were also announced: Catherine Nayl at TF1 and Eric Revel at LCI.
The change at the top of the net’s news division follows Monday’s announcement of the departure of Patrick Poivre d’Arvor, TF1’s evening news anchor since its privatization in 1987.
Long a high-profile and often controversial media figure in France, Poivre d’Arvor will be replaced during the next few weeks by journalist and political talkshow host Laurence Ferrari, who is leaving pay TV rival Canal Plus.
On Thursday, Poivre d’Arvor issued a statement to Agence France Presse confirming widespread suspicions that he had been dismissed from his position by TF1 management.
In it, the presenter denounced the “brutality of the decision,” which was “even less understandable given that I think I have accomplished my task, for more than 20 years, with dignity, professionalism and efficiency, which has enabled TF1 to be ahead of a talented competition every night, without exception.”
Poivre d’Arvor also made clear in the statement he will be leaving TF1 by the end of July.
