First Run on the move with 'Midway'

Film unit picks up Cheshire's documentary

First Run Features has picked up tyro helmer Godfrey Cheshire's docu "Moving Midway," about relocating his family's Southern plantation, contemporary race relations and the discovery of his family's African American relatives.

Lauded at Gotham's 2008 New Director/New Films fest, the doc will bow in Gotham on Sept. 12 followed by a platform release in the South, then branching out nationwide.

Cheshire, a longtime film critic who formerly worked at Variety, wrote, directed and produced "Moving." The docu was also produced by Vincent Farrell and Jay Spain and exec produced by R.B. Reeves.

"We've been fans of his criticism for more than a decade, and to see him make the leap from film critic to filmmaker is very exciting," said Marc Mauceri, veep of First Run.  

Indie distrib First Run releases approximately a dozen movies theatrically each year, with an additional 50 homevid bows. Latest releases include "Constantine's Sword," "Praying With Lior" and "A Jihad for Love."
