FX's 'Dirt' bites the dust

Network cancels original series

FX series "Dirt" has been canceled after two seasons.

ABC Studios and FX Prods. produced, while Matthew Carnahan, Joe Fields, David Arquette and Courteney Cox served as exec producers. Cox starred as the magazine editor in the series about a celebrity tabloid that goes to great lengths in search of hot gossip.

After a 13-episode first season, only seven segs were delivered for season two due to the writers strike. The last episode aired April 13.

Ratings were down significantly in season two. When the pilot aired on Jan. 2, 2007, "Dirt" drew a 1.8 rating/5 share in adults 18-49, with 3.74 million viewers overall. For the finale, "Dirt" earned a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 1.06 million viewers overall.
