The pilot will center on a Brooklyn writer who nurses a painful breakup by acting out his dream to live as a character out of a Raymond Chandler novel. As a result, he finds a new lease on life by offering up his services as an inexperienced private eye.
Jonathan Ames wrote the pilot, which comes from 3 Arts Entertainment. Ames will exec produce, along with former HBO exec Sarah Condon, who now has a deal with the cabler. 3 Arts' David Becky and Stephanie Davis are also on board as exec producers.
Pilot order is cast contingent; casting is now under way.
Ames' credits include the novels "I Pass Like Night," "The Extra Man" and "Wake Up, Sir!" He's developing the last two as features.
Scribe also put together the essay collections "What's Not to Love?" and "I Love You More Than You Know," and next has the graphic novel "The Alcoholic" in the works at DC Comics. Ames also served as a columnist for the New York Press and developed "What's Not to Love?" as a pilot at Showtime.
