Rocky Carroll named 'NCIS' regular

Actor given full-time duty on CBS' crime drama

"NCIS" has recruited Rocky Carroll to active duty as a series regular on the veteran military-themed crime drama.

Carroll had previously recurred as Leon Vance on the show. But his character has now been promoted to director of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, replacing Lauren Holly's character, who was killed in the show's season finale.

The casting also continues the "NCIS" connection to mid-'90s Eye drama "Chicago Hope." Not only does onetime "Hope" star Rocky Carroll replace another onetime "Hope" thesp, Holly, but it also reunites him with another "Hope" alum, "NCIS" star Mark Harmon.

Carroll's TV credits include "The Agency" and "Roc." In film, he'll appear in the upcoming Jim Carrey vehicle "Yes Man."
