The laconic press release only stated that the decision was taken by mutual consent of both parties.
Clement started at Radio-Canada as head of programming in 2003 and he became head in November 2006.
Under his tenure, the pubcaster snared a number of hit local shows and shook-up the Sunday night TV scene in French Canada thanks to the popular talk show "Tout le monde en parle," a show that Clement helped get on air.
But he was also a controversial figure. Clement made headlines by publicly attacking the Radio-Canada series "Felix Leclerc," on the iconic Quebec singer-songwriter, while the show was still airing. The producers sued Clement and the network for C$4.3 million ($4.2 million), a case which is still before the Quebec courts.
Radio-Canada's executive VP Sylvain Lafrance will take over Clement's job until a replacement is found.
