Jimmy Smits joins cast of 'Dexter'

Actor to play attorney on Showtime series

Jimmy Smits isn't straying far from Miami, signing on to join the cast of Showtime's hit serial killer drama "Dexter."

Smits will star in ten of the 12 episodes greenlit for "Dexter's" third season. Show returns to the paycabler this fall.

Thesp is set to play the ambitious assistant district attorney who comes from a high-profile and powerful Miami family.

Smits most recently starred on and exec produced the short-lived CBS drama "Cane," in which he played a member of another high-profile and powerful Miami family.
