Cinemondo kicks off third session

Peter Scarlet in spotlight

Cinemondo kicks off its third sesh with Tribeca Film Fest artistic director Peter Scarlet in the hot seat as host of the international film series. Scarlet’s co-curator is Link TV’s Steven Lawrence, music and cultural programming veep.

The five films can be seen online and via satcasters on Link TV beginning June 21. Films include Li Yang’s “Blind Shaft”; Mahamat-Saleh Haroun’s “Daratt”; Ozer Kiziltan’s “Takva”; Bahman Ghobadi’s “A Time for Drunken Horses” and Rajnesh Domalpalli’s “Vanaja.”

One highlight is Scarlet’s interview (in Iraq) of Ghobadi, the Kurdish director of Camera d’Or winner feature “A Time for Drunken Horses.” Pic has been out of circulation since 2001 due to legal issues. For Gothamites who want to see it on the bigscreen, the Museum of Modern Art will unspool it June 28, the same day Link airs the drama.

Entire lineup is a retrospective of international film fest winners, most unavailable to American auds after brief theatrical or festival runs. Helmers sitting down to talk with Scarlet include Domalpalli, Ghobadi, Haroun and Kiziltan.

Link pacted with distributor Koch Lorber Films to distribute to the domestic homevideo market. So far, four films have been released on DVD. Link is in 31 million homes via DirecTV and Dish Network.
