Maire will remain in charge for the Aug. 6-16 edition and Locarno 2009.
Maire took over as Locarno topper in 2006, just as the Rome Film Festival broke onto the international scene, deeply altering the summer/fall fest calendar and making life tougher for Locarno and Turin.
Turin subsequently brought aboard helmer Nanni Moretti as its artistic topper to boost its profile.
