Cirque du Soleil swings into Asia

'Zaia' to premiere Aug. 28 in Macau

Cirque du Soleil will open its first permanent production in Asia on Aug. 28 in Macau.

"Zaia," a show written and directed by Carbon 14 artistic director Gilles Maheu, will play at a custom-built 1,800-seat theater inside the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. Theater and show combined cost $150 million.

"Zaia" is about a young girl who journeys into space and features dance, movement and aerial acrobatics.

Las Vegas Sands, which owns the Venetian and other hotel-casinos in Vegas, owns the Venetian Macao. Company is creating the Cotai Strip of resort-casino properties in Macau.
