'Vanities' will make fall bow

Musical sets date with Broadway

Broadway-bound tuner "Vanities" has set a sked for the Rialto, with a Gotham berth planned for this fall following a tryout at Pasadena Playhouse in late summer.

Three-actress cast includes Lauren Kennedy ("Monty Python's Spamalot"), Sarah Stiles ("Avenue Q") and Anneliese van der Pol ("Beauty and the Beast").

Plot follows the lives of three female friends from the 1960s through the 1980s. Scribe Jack Heifner wrote the book based on his 1976 play, which ran for more than three years Off Broadway, while David Kirshenbaum ("Summer of '42") provides the score.

Thesp-helmer Judith Ivey directs, and Dan Knechtges ("Xanadu") choreographs.

Design team includes Anna Louizos (sets), Joe Aulisi (costumes) and Paul Miller (lights).

"Vanities" was first produced at TheaterWorks in Palo Alto, Calif., in 2006. Five-week Pasadena engagement begins previews Aug. 22 ahead of an Aug. 29 opening.

Broadway staging is produced by Junkyard Dog Prods. and Bartner/Jenkins Entertainment.
