Two-year deal, in the significant seven-figure range, keeps Malins firmly in place as "How I Met Your Mother" showrunner, alongside creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays.
Deal also sets aside room for new development from Malins, who last year developed the project "The 16th Minute" for ABC.
Malins said it wasn't a hard decision to stick with the critically acclaimed "Mother," which enters its fourth season next fall. Malins and the rest of the "Mother" staff return to work June 13.
"All of us feel very lucky to be on a show that we really like," he said. "It's a comedy we feel proud of."
Malins said he'll continue to juggle the show while also immediately getting back into development. Scribe said he has several projects in mind, both in the single-camera and multi-camera arenas.
"My development experience at 20th has been just great," he said. "Their overall thing is, 'Do what you think the show should be rather than what we think the show should be.' That's great to hear as a writer."
Malins' credits include stints as exec producer on sitcom staples "Will & Grace" and "Friends." He also created the NBC laffer "Come to Papa."
