Network picked up 11 one-hour segs of the show, which comes from exec producer Arnold Shapiro. "Border Security USA" is based on the hit Oz format "Border Security: Australia's Front Line."
The alternative skein, shot around the nation centers on several different agencies within the Dept. of Homeland Security. Agencies that have given their full cooperation include the Transportation Security Administration (TSA); U.S. Coast Guard; Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE); the Secret Service; U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); and Customs and Border Protection/the Border Patrol.
The Australian series, which airs on Network Seven, bowed in 2004 and quickly became a ratings smash. Show is now in its third year there.
Shapiro's credits include the docs "Scared Straight" (and its sequels) and "Scared Silent," as well as "Family Business," "Blow Out" and "Big Brother."
