According to distrib Walt Disney Japan, the second pic in the "Narnia" series raked in $8.2 million in its first five days on release from 656,222 admissions and 778 screens.
The prints are nearly evenly divided between the dubbed version and the subtitled version.
Auds have centered on families and young couples, though the demographic range is wide.
The C.S. Lewis novels on which "Caspian" and its predecessor are based have not reached the sales heights of the "Harry Potter" series. But the "Narnia" books are widely read in Japan, which has long been a good market for Brit fantasy fiction and its pic spin-offs.
