TORONTO -- "Elijah," Paul Unwin's biopic about Manitoba aboriginal leader Ojibwa-Cree Elijah Harper, was the top winner at Saturday's Leo Awards, honoring the best in British Columbia-made film and TV.
"Elijah" won for beat festure-length drama and also scooped prizes for Blake Corbet's script, Franco Pante and Lenka Svab's editing and Terry Frewer's musical score.
Carl Bessai took home best director for "Normal," while pic's thesps Tygh Runyan and Camille Sullivan nabbed best male and female leads, respectively.
Michael Eklund won supporting male performance for "Walk All Over Me," while Jillian Fargey won supporting female for "The Green Chain."
On the smallscreen, "Smallville" won for dramatic series and cinematography, while CBC's cancelled series "jPOD," based on Douglas Coupland's novel, won for screenwriting (Daegan Fryklind), guest performance male (Ryan Robbins), guest female (Babz Chula) and best female thesp (Emilie Ullerup).
