It's kicked off the four-property deal by enlisting scribe Justin Marks to pen the "Bionic Commander" book.
Marks has been busy adapting pop culture properties into pics, including "Voltron: Defender of the Universe," "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe," "Green Arrow: Escape From Supermax" and Fox's upcoming "Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li."
He's currently penning an adaptation of the Devil's Due graphic novel "Hack/Slash" for Rogue Pictures and producers Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter.
As part of his relationship with Devil's Due, Marks will also begin creating original books for the publisher, with the first a time-travel epic tentatively titled "Sleepwalker." It will bow next year.
Capcom has been looking for ways to spin off its high-profile vidgames as other media properties.
Hollywood's already shown interest in picking up several of the company's games to adapt as pics, but turning them into graphic novels could boost the appeal of the titles given an additional base of fans to lure to the multiplex.
Capcom's "Resident Evil" and "Street Fighter" have already been adapted as movies. It also publishes the "Mega Man" and "Devil May Cry" games. A "Bionic Commando" sequel is set for later this year.
"We wouldn't just be taking a property to a studio," said Stephen Christy, manager of intellectual-property development at Devil's Due. "We'd be taking a videogame and a comicbook and an incredible screenwriter all at once." Devil's Due also has been active in setting up its books as adaptations around town.
In addition to "Hack/Slash," it also has "Drafted" at New Line and "Lost Squad" also set up at Rogue.
