Aussies vote with their 'Feet'

Animated feature wins DVD award

Helmer George Miller's "Happy Feet" was Down Under's most popular DVD of 2007, followed by pubcaster ABC's laffer series "Summer Heights High" and helmer Clayton Jacobson's homegrown indie comedy "Kenny."

Oz music also featured heavily, with two DVDs from perennial rockers AC/DC and entries for newer bands Powderfinger and Silverchair showing up in the top 1,000 homevids sold last year. Aussie titles, however, made up just 77 of the 1,000 for a combined value of A$52 million ($50.1 million).

The figures were released Wednesday by the Australian Film Commission, which also reported that DVD and VHS sales had risen from A$151 million in1997 to A$1.2 billion ($1.16 billion) last year.
