Dou Dou Huang, a.d. of the Shanghai Song and Dance Ensemble, will choreograph the show, with tunes by David Yazbek ("Dirty Rotten Scoundrels").
Hwang's book for "Bruce Lee: Journey to the West" combines Lee's bio with elements from the Chinese mythological tale of the Monkey King. Show aims to arrive on Broadway during the 2010-11 season.
Production from Elephant Eye Theatrical (the co-producer of "Saved," currently in previews at Playwrights Horizons) has been brewing for a while now, with Yazbek and Sher -- currently in the awards spotlight for his glowingly received staging of "Pacific" -- attached since at least last summer.
Prior to "Lee," Elephant Eye hopes to bow a stage adaptation of "The Addams Family" on Broadway during the 2009-10 season.
