Los Angeles-based Katapult Film Sales has picked up world rights to Chinese helmer Liu Fendou's Un Certain Regard film "Ocean Flame."

Pic is a literary adaptation of a novel by Wang Shuo about a reformed blackmailer who sets out to avenge the death of the woman who saved his soul.

Deal, brokered by CAA,  sees Katapult pick up rights outside Southeast Asia. Those territories are handled by Hong Kong-based producer Filmko.

Pic receives its official selection screening on Thursday.

"I'm a big fan of (Liu's previous film) 'Green Hat,' so I was thrilled when Katapult had the unique opportunity to work on such a brilliant film.  Liu's stylized and intense direction will resonate with audiences," said Katapult's David Jourdan.
