This year, the celebration will kick off with the inaugural Theater Awards Festival weekend beginning on June 27.
The show will be hosted by Anthony Anderson and Kimberly Elise, and Stephanie Mills is scheduled to perform.
The NAACP Theater Awards celebrate the evolution of the portrayal of African-Americans in theater from stereotypical caricatures to a more balanced reflection of the black experience as a whole.
The award show and festival are sponsored by Los Angeles city councilmen Eric Garcetti and Bernard Parks.
