Gray was unable to get the print to Cannes in time for an early press screening, which created the need for the rare simultaneous premiere and press screening. The filmmakers have complained to the festival about the way the press screenings were handled.
The press lined up outside the Debussy and were told that the film was delayed by the Italian film "Wild Blood," which started 45 minutes late. One group with white badges was funneled to the small Bazin room to see the film, which was scheduled to start at 10:30, but waited for half an hour.
The rest of the media were finally admitted into the Debussy well after 10:30. That screening played well, and generated applause, while the one in the smaller room was silent as credits rolled. The fest did not check in with the filmmakers about the change of plan.
