Focus sells Van Sant's 'Milk'

Gus Van Sant's Sean Penn starrer "Milk," the biopic of slain gay pol Harvey Milk, has sold to Constantin in Germany, SND in France, Bim in Italy, Paradise in Russia, Svensk in Scandinavia and Serenity in Taiwan.
Focus execs were also close to inking a U.K. deal for "Milk" and an untitled Sam Mendes project starring John Krasinski.
Mendes' pic about young newlyweds has also sold to Mars in France, Bim in Italy, Paradise in Russia, Svensk in Scandinavia and Serenity in Taiwan and is on the verge of a deal in Germany.
The Coen brothers' "A Serious Man," in pre-production, has sold to Tobis in Germany, Medusa in Italy, Central Partnership in Russia, Svensk in Scandinavia, Serenity in Taiwan and Mars in France.
"Blood: The Last Vampire" from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" producer Bill Kong, helmed by Chris Nahon ("Kiss of the Dragon"), has sold to Constantin in Germany and Asmik Ace in Japan.
"Despite all the doom and gloom we're hearing about, we've had an extremely good market," Focus Features Intl. sales and distribution prexy Alison Thompson said. "Our sales are very buoyant, and we've done pretty much all the business we had hoped to do here."
