Ardisson has been a leading personality in French TV for the past 30 years, but remains unknown in the U.S. Yet he succeeded in enlisting Moresco and Cohen to pen his two films, “10 Days in Cannes” and “Talk Show,” respectively, based solely on a 20-page treatment.
“Moresco didn’t even know who I was but he liked my idea,” said Ardisson. “In the U.S., contrary to France, you always get one shot at everything, and if you screw it up, it’s your own fault.”
Ardisson said he thought of contacting Moresco to write “10 Days in Cannes” because, much like “Crash,” the pic is a “chorus-type of film” — interweaving the journeys of seven characters from around the world, with diverse aspirations, who come to Cannes with dreams to fulfill.
“It’s a big set piece that all comes together in the end,” Moresco said. “In essence, we want it to be a valentine to cinema. Each character will symbolize a different film genre — comedy, romance, drama, thriller.”
Originally budgeted at e20 million ($31 million), “Cannes” will not be eligible to receive Gallic production coins from the CNC. But Ardisson said he hopes to receive financing from overseas since the international cast will likely include a Brit, an Italian and an Israeli.
His other project, the Cohen-penned thriller, “Talk Show,” deals with a man who gets shot and falls into a coma, during which he sees himself as a talkshow host interviewing people from his past.
Both pics are co-produced by LGM Cinema. “10 Days in Cannes” will be handled by Studio 37; while “Talk Show” has been picked by Gaumont.
