The American Federation of Television & Radio Arists and the majors have recessed after eight days of talks and will resume negotiations Monday on a primetime deal.

Neither side had any comment about the talks, which took place amid a news blackout at the headquarters of the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers in Encino.

AFTRA's expected to reach a deal soon. The Screen Actors Guild has accepted the AMPTP's invite to resume its feature-primetime talks no later than May 28.

SAG national exec director Doug Allen has said in a message posted on the guild site that he hopes the talks can start before May 28 because the industry needs the deal to close.

Hollywood's been on yellow alert due to the lack of resolution of the SAG contract, which expires June 30. Uncertainty of over a SAG deal's stopped studios from greenlighting features that would start shooting after that date.

SAG's contract talks recessed May 6 over objections from the guild that a deal was within reach. The congloms insisted they were obligated to launch the twice-delayed negotiations with AFTRA, which opened the next day.

AFTRA's contract also expires June 30.
