Banff festival to honor Brent Butt

TV star to receive Usinov comedy award

TORONTO -- Canuck standup vet and TV star Brent Butt will receive the Comedy Network's Peter Ustinov Award for outstanding achievement at the 29th Banff World Television Festival, which runs June 8-11.

Butt is creator and star of Canada's No. 1 comedy series "Corner Gas." Previous winners include Bob Newhart, John Cleese, Martin Short, Tracy Ullman and Kelsey Grammer.

Butt, 41, began doing standup in his native Saskatchewan at age 20. After four years headlining in Toronto he received his own gala performance at Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival. His special, "Bedtime With Brent Butt," has been seen on A&E, HBO, CBC, CTV and Global.

The Banff World Television Festival is a not-for-profit event produced by Achilles Media. The Banff World Television Festival takes place June 8-11 at the Fairmont Banff Springs in Alberta, Canada.
