Dhalia (“Drained”) has just shot Vincent Cassel starrer “Adrift,” the first film in the development-production alliance between Universal Pictures and Fernando Meirelles’ 02 Filmes.
“Gun” is set up at Sao Paulo’s TeleImage affiliate Moonshot Pics, which produced procedural “9 mm; Sao Paulo,” Fox Intl. Channel’s first original miniseries in Brazil.
Written by Dhalia and Argentinean Octavio Scopelliti and partly based on Dhalia’s personal experiences, “Gun” turns on a Brazilian girl who takes to the road in Buenos Aires, Patagonia-bound, running from her past and the mafia.
“Gun” will be set up as a Brazil-Argentina-Spain co-production, said Moonshot’s general director Roberto D’Avila. It shoots early next spring.
Newton Cannito, who wrote several segs of “9 mm,” is teaming with Dennison Ramalho to co-direct “Casa grande,” a horror movie with a Brazilian twist.
Pic leads the production slate of Magia Filmes, another D’Avila shingle, whose “Carmo,” a Brazilian badlands road movie, screens at Cannes.
Also on Magia’s slate, and shooting 2010, is “Filhos do morro,” to topline actor Marcio Grande, which D’Avila calls “ ‘Crash’ meets ‘City of God,’ ” as well as “The Prince of Asturias,” about Brazil’s own real-life Titanic tragedy.
At Cannes, Myriad is market preeming Bruno Barreto’s Moonshot-produced “174,” about the real-life hijacking of a bus in Rio de Janeiro.
