Das Films teams for adaptation

Gellar, Tucker, Thewlis to star in film

Das Films has teamed with Velvet Steamroller Entertainment, Muse Productions and PalmStar Entertainment for "Veronika Decides to Die," an adaptation of the Paulo Coehlo novel that stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jonathan Tucker, David Thewlis, Melissa Leo and Erika Christensen.

Roberta Hanley and Larry Gross wrote the script, and Emily Young ("Kiss of Life") will direct. The film started shooting in New York May 12.

Gellar plays the title character, a woman who goes on a journey to free herself from the constraints of society.

Financing comes from Sriram Das' Das Films and Velvet Steamroller. Jonathan Bross and Chris Hanley are producing, and Kevin Frakes and Stephan Paternot are exec producers. Velvet Octopus is selling the film worldwide at Cannes.
