ROME -- Italo helmer Matteo Garrone's Neapolitan crimer "Gomorra" has sold to Optimum for the U.K. and Prokino for Germany and Austria, ahead of its Cannes competish bow.
Garrone's gritty contempo drama depicting Naples crime families, collectively known as the Camorra, is based on a bestselling expose by Roberto Saviano published in 33 countries.
Pic will be released on 430 screens in Italy via 01 Distribuzione this Friday, the eve of its Cannes launch.
Produced by Domenico Procacci's Fandango, "Gomorra" is being sold by Fandango Portobello Sales, headed by Janine Gold.
