Riot forces cancellation

Students were rioting in Paris but the Cannes festival serenely opened as usual in 1968. Still it was the calm before the storm, as hundreds took to the Croisette in protest, filmmakers pulled their pics and the jury resigned, forcing the cancellation of the fest.

When Abu Dhabi officials decided to launch their Middle East Intl. Film Festival last year, the focus was all about the finance.
