| 'Maids' |
A fictionalized dramedy of the daily drudgery and dreams of five Sao Paulo domestic servants, "Maids" was directed by Meirelles and Nando Olival in 2001.
"Maids" is the first film in which Meirelles' auteur voice is clearly heard in its close focus on the housemaids' lives -- a social concern that was later developed on a larger canvas in "City of God," "The Constant Gardener" and "Blindness."
The pick-up continues a close working relationship between Meirelles and 6 Sales partner Marina Fuentes.
Working out of Lumina, Fuentes handled sales on "City of God" TV series spinoff "City of Men," and then repped feature film "Antonia," which was produced by Meirelles' Sao Paulo-based production house 02 Filmes.
"We like to encourage distributors to look back at the early films of renowned filmmakers. Last year we had the opportunity to work with Alfonso Cuaron's debut, 'Solo con tu pareja,' which we are selling remarkably well, and now this year we are happy to do the same for Fernando," said Fuentes, 6 Sales co-managing director.
