Brazilian-made "Drained" and "Fabricating Tom Ze" have been licensed to Atlanta-based Latin American Pay TV (LAPTV) network for distribution in Spanish-speaking Latin America.
Pay TV operator Canal Brasil has licensed both titles for Brazil.
Digital content supplier Digital Latin America (DLA), a joint venture among Hicks, Muse Tate and Furst, Claxson and Motorola, has purchased the first slate for distribution in cable systems throughout the region.
Caracas-based TeleSur, another pan-Latin America pay TV network, has licensed most completed titles.
Productions completed in 2007 and 2008 offer a panorama of up-and-coming directors from across Latin America: "American Visa"; Toronto Discovery Award winner "Cochochi"; "Coyote"; "Drained"; "Fabricating Tom Ze"; "Lokas," which has been a huge hit in Chile; the Fernando Meirelles-produced "Not by Chance"; "The Samba Poet"; "Thunder Man"; and the biggest Bolivian B.O. hit ever, "Who Killed the White Llama?"
"Very few structures have ever invested so much energy in promoting Latin American cinema, especially this new wave of filmmakers whom we believe in: all our films are from first- or second-time directors," said Mathis.
