Tata Sky passes 2 million mark

TV platform hits records subscribers

HONG KONG -- Tata Sky, the Indian satellite TV platform that is jointly owned by the Tata Group and News Corp. subsidiary Star TV, has accumulated 2 million subscribers. It passed the landmark some 20 months after launch in 2006 and now offers 150 channels.

"We attribute the record sales numbers to our ongoing focus on providing cutting- edge technology, the most comprehensive channel lineup, innovative interactive services and top quality customer service," said CEO Vikram Kaushik.

Company's interactive services are designed specifically for Indian auds and range from education and cookery to real-time religious content.

Faced with the imminent entry of two DTH providers, the company plans to launch a high-end digital video recorder later this year.
