Stunt coordinator and second unit director Ian Quinn will make his feature helming debut on the $60 million production.
The producers are co-financing “The Adventures of William Tell” via their Caruso/Conte 2010 Pan-European Fund as well as through independent equity financing.
Cornelius Schregle’s script is based on Friedrich von Schiller’s 1805 play. The story chronicles the life of the 14th century Swiss hero who, as legend has it, was forced to shoot an apple off his son’s head to win his freedom from Austrian occupiers.
Swiss actress Kiera Chaplin, granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, will star as Tell’s wife.
Pre-production is set to begin in the fall. Pic will shoot in Lucerne and other regions in Switzerland, with release scheduled for 2010.
Caruso and Conte announced the production Thursday at a press conference in Lucerne on the heels of the Rose d’Or TV programming fest. Rose d’Or topper Urban Frye is consulting associate producer on the production.
