With the cash award came a permanent injunction against the site - TorrentSpy - that would prevent it from further infringements. However, the TorrentSpy site has already been shut down.
"This substantial money judgment sends a strong message about the illegality of these sites," Motion Picture Assn. of America topper Dan Glickman said in a statement. "The demise of TorrentSpy is a clear victory for the studios and demonstrates that such pirate sites will not be allowed to continue to operate without facing relentless litigation by copyright holders."
Whether the studios will ever collect on the judgment is another question, given that TorrentSpy has been out of business since late March.
