"Ghost Brothers of Darkland County," with music by Mellencamp and book by King, was pushed back to allow creatives more time to complete work on the project, according the Atlanta's Alliance Theater. Show was skedded to preem there in spring 2009 ahead of a potential New York run.
Musical, described as a gothic mystery about the death of two brothers in a fictional Mississippi town, is the first tuner outing from both rock singer-songwriter Mellencamp and horror novelist King.
Alliance subscribers got news of the cancellation late Monday. A new production has yet to be confirmed to fill the April 2009 slot that "Ghost Brothers" leaves vacant.
Theater hopes to produce the Mellencamp-King musical during its 2009-10 season.
