Intandem picks up 'Jolene'
Pic based on Doctorow story

LONDON — U.K.-based sales and production company Intandem Films has picked up worldwide rights to helmer Dan Ireland’s “Jolene.”

Pic, based on an E.L. Doctorow short story, stars Dermot Mulroney, Denise Richards, Chazz Palminteri, Rupert Friend and Michael Vartan.

“Jolene” will be making its debut at Cannes.

“It’s rare that Intandem would pick up rights to a completed film,” said Intandem chairman Gary Smith. “Normally we would get involved from script stage and manage the process through to distribution to ensure maximum quality and success in the market place. However, following a private screening of ‘Jolene’ we were astounded by the quality of the film and its potential as a very commercial indie title in the market.”

Intandem recently sold the U.S. rights to “How to Lose Friends and Alienate People,” based on Brit journo Tony Young’s disastrous stint at Vanity Fair magazine, to MGM.

A perfectly realized, painterly portrayal of a widow's life, "A Light in the Fog" is a singularly assured feature film bow that is as understated as the best of Iranian cinema.
