Sony lands 'Moon' rights

Sci-fi thriller stars Sam Rockwell

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has picked up distribution rights in all English-speaking territories for Liberty Films' "Moon," starring Sam Rockwell.

Story centers on a man who mines the precious gas that holds the key to reversing the Earth's energy crisis.

Sci-fi thriller marks the feature debut of commercial director Duncan Jones, who is also the film's co-writer along with Nathan Parker. Stuart Fenegan and Nicky Moss produced "Moon" alongside Trudie Styler, whose company Xingu Films co-produced the project.

Film was shot in the U.K. at Shepperton Studios.

Independent Film Co. will handle all other territories.
